Travel Vaccinations
If you are travelling abroad, you may require vaccinations.
Firstly, you need to complete the attached form or pop into surgery to collect one. It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 8 weeks before you travel - as a second vaccine may be required and for us to try to accommodate you (or any additional family members)
Your appointment needs to be booked at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work. These vaccines may have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.
An appointment is required where the nurse will then perform a risk assessment, from the details you have provided on the form and the vaccines will be given at the time of your appointment. Please be aware that an additional appointment may be necessary, if the appointment time runs over or another vaccine is required. Please provide as many details as you can, including the towns to be visited in addition to the country. Please also be aware that if the form has not been completed or you do not bring the completed form to your appointment, then the vaccines will not be given.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below;
Please be aware that on occasions, there can be manufacturing problems which may mean that a recommended vaccination cannot be given in time for your holiday. In this case, lifestyle advice will be offered by the practice nurse to reduce the risk of you contracting disease.
The practice is unable to guarantee that an appointment will be provided in time for your holiday, however we will try our very best to provide an appointment, in the required timescale.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS; One example is yellow fever. Please enquire with medical reception staff for the cost of vaccinations and travel certificates from the surgery. We can also provide the telephone number for the Private Travel Clinic.
